Artists you should know about – Saul Bass

Saul was a prolific graphic artists and film maker who was well known for his many collaborations with film directors, including Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Scorcese, often designing both the title sequences and the advertising posters for films such as ‘The Man With the Golden Arm’, ‘Psycho’ and ‘Anatomy of a Murder’.

He is also remembered for his designs of the AT&T ‘globe’ and Continental Airline’s ‘jetstream’ logos.

Sadly Bass died in 1996, but his influences and style have brushed off on the next generation of film makers, with films such as ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ and ‘Catch Me if You Can’ both opting to use title sequences that mimic his recognisable ‘paper cut-out’ style.
